The discovery of a fraudulent medical certificate scam operating in the centre of Chandigarh has led to a startling revelation. The swindle, which involves a fake medical laboratory and an immigration consultant, has conned many people who want to travel overseas.
Jai Karan Joshi, an immigration counsellor and the operation’s leader, was first caught scamming individuals by making fictitious promises of jobs abroad. The phoney medical laboratory operated by Arshad Khan and Mahipal Singh, M/S Health Care Diagano Lab, was discovered as a result of further investigations.
The two ran a complex ruse in which prospective visa holders were sent to their laboratory to undergo required medical exams. For a steep cost of Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,500 for each applicant, the lab produced fraudulent medical certificates instead of doing authentic testing. To further the deceit, the lab used inexperienced workers to take blood samples, putting the customers’ health in danger.
