Ensure Transparent, Free and Fair Elections: State Election Commissioner

State Election Commission, UT, Chandigarh convened a meeting today at UT Guest House of all Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers under the Chairmanship of SK Srivastava, State Election Commissioner, to discuss various issue relating to ensuing Municipal Corporation Election in Chandigarh scheduled for December 2021. Election to 35 wards of Municipal Corporation shall be conducted by 9 ROs and each RO shall be assisted by 2 AROs. Besides, 2 ROs and 4 AROs have been kept in Reserve.

The State Election Commissioner welcomed the participants and exhorted everyone to work sincerely to ensure transparent, free and fair Elections. He stressed that voters are the backbone of any strong democracy and hence every-one should work to facilitate the voters in casting their vote. He focused on the strict observance of COVID protocol and use of IT during the election – like disseminating the electoral procedure/relevant information on a Mobile App.

The Secretary Election Commission gave details of Election procedures and brief outline of the tentative Election schedule i.e., the nomination shall commence from later part of November’2021 and the poll shall be held in December’2021. Timelines for finalizing the Polling Stations have also been issued by the Commission so that ensuing elections could be timely concluded before 31st December, 2021, the date of expiring the term of the present corporation.
