Electricity will be in private hands by the end of the year, bid documents will be released next month. All preparations have been made to complete the privatisation process of the Chandigarh electricity department. The UT administration will issue the bid document by November end.
UT Administrator’s advisor Manoj Parida had held a meeting with officials of Ministry of Power and the Deloitte Company where obstacles were discussed. These included the security fund of 157 crores, future of employees, role of government in privatisation, transfer of land and goods of electricity department, etc.
Manoj Parida said that the interests of the employees and consumers of the electricity department in Chandigarh will be protected.
The privatisation process is to be completed by December 2020 as per the orders of the Administrator’s advisor. Currently, the city has 2.47 lakh electricity consumers. Of these, 2.14 lakh people are using domestic electricity, while others have connections to commercial, small power, public lighting and agriculture.
