Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Punjab, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka has issued directions to register a case against the accused in the post-matric scholarship scam.
In a statement here today, Dr. Verka said that under the leadership of chief minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab government is committed to root out corruption and no one involved in this scam will be spared no matter how powerful he may be.
Dr. Verka said that about 100 colleges are involved in this case and more than Rs. 100 crore recovery is pending against them. He said that the matter has been discussed by the Cabinet and the opinion of Advocate General has also been received in this regard. He said that the Supreme Court has asked to register a case for recovery of more than Rs 50 lakh. In this context, orders have been issued to registered FIR against those who cheated poor children.
It is to be mention that five officials have already been charge sheeted on the directions of Dr. Verka. These include deputy director Parminder Singh Gill, DCFA Charanjit Singh, SO Mukesh Bhatia, Superintendent Rajinder Chopra and Senior Assistant Rakesh Arora.
Dr. Rajkumar Verka said that he will ensure fair and transparent action in the post-matric SC scholarship scam. He said that strict action is being taken against the colleges which had misappropriated scholarship funds and failed to repay the outstanding amount. Dr. Verka said that he will not tolerate any injustice to minorities at any level and will personally ensure strict action in such cases. He said that his government is committed to extend the benefits of social welfare schemes to the real beneficiaries.
