In a thrilling IPL 2024 showdown that took place in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals toiled hard to vanquish Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs hence paving the way for the resurgence of their playoff dreams. The path to playoffs for Lucknow has become harder, but DC playoff hope is still burning.
In a match where every run mattered, following the coin flip, Delhi Capitals decided to bat first. This decision was rewarding, thanks to Prithvi Shaw And David Warner who made a strong start by posting 58 for the first wickets when they opened. After Shaw’s exit at 32 for 2 balls played, Shreyas Iyer came back into play after being injured since then and contributed 47 whereas Rishabh Pant scored 38 more runs.
The middle order provided the much-needed late surge, with Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel showcasing their prowess in the death overs. With contributions from Ishant Sharma, Delhi Capitals posted a formidable 208/4.
The impressive stellar 78 off 42 balls from their skipper KL Rahul set Lucknow Super Giants’ chase to a fine start. Nonetheless, they caved in when they could least afford to. It was sad that even after promising beginnings for Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda, Lucknow wilted under pressure due to losing important wickets intermittently.

In Lucknow’s run chase, Delhi’s bowling attack captained by Ishant Sharma and having Axar Patel as the deputy tightened bolts. Eventually, it was young pacer Mukesh Kumar’s cool final over that sealed Lucknow’s fate.
Ishant Sharma, who was a champion both in bowling and batting, became a key figure in Delhi’s victory, clinching the title of the man of the match.
For a second time in the same league season, the next games will feature the Delhi Capitals squaring up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore side before later on meeting up with the Rajasthan Royals’ team after which they would be either knocked off or proceed into playoffs hence very vital. On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants have to readjust themselves especially while playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings who are vying for final places in Indian Premier League games one after another where they need to secure their slot.
