CWG 2018: India claims its first ever mixed-team, Gold in Badminton

India clinched gold in mixed-team badminton in the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast on Monday.

Even though India took lead against Malaysia in the mixed doubles and singles categories, young guns Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty failed to keep the momentum going, losing to V Shem Goh-Wee Kiong Tan in the doubles with scores reading: 15-21, 20-22. However, star player, Saina Nehwal ensured that there was no slip-up. She stood firm and defeated Soniia Cheah 21-11, 19-21, 21-9.

Earlier, Kidambi Srikanth defeated superstar Lee Chong Wei21-17, 21-14 in 43 minutes. This came after Satwik Rankireddy amd Ashwini Ponnappa won the mixed-doubles event.

India’s Gold medal tally has now reached 10. With 4 Silver and 5 Bronze, India have 19 medals overall.
