Covid: Team of experts submit report to Chandigarh Administration

In view of increasing Covid cases in Chandigarh, a special team deployed by the Central Government submitted its report to the Chandigarh Administration.

Prof PVN Laxmi of Community Medicine, PGI, and Sahil Goel, Deputy Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), were the members of the Central team.

In the report, the experts have advised to increase the testing facility at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, in view of the increasing cases in the South sectors. At the same time, considering the pace of the infection, PGI has been asked to prepare more beds for Corona patients.

On home isolation, the team suggested that the families of all positive cases should be contacted by doctors within 24 hours to segregate the patients from their family members.

Maximum 25 active cases on a team

The experts suggested that a contact tracing team needs to be prepared at the zone level. This team should be responsible for a maximum of 25 active cases, so that the people who come in contact with the infected can be identified quickly. There are two different teams working right now, one is health department and the other municipal corporation.

The health department has less staff than the municipal corporation. In such a situation, their staff needs to be increased.

More cases in South Sector, test facility increased in Medical College

The central team has found that cases are increasing rapidly in the south sectors. Hence, there is a need to increase testing facilities in Sector-32 Medical College. Rapid antigen testing should be done by sending field teams to the containment zone. With this, antigen testing needs to be started in the emergency ward of PGI so that positive patients can be isolated as soon as possible.

Increase beds, train more employees

PGI and GMCH, Sector 32, will have to be ready to increase more beds in case of case escalation. The team also recommended that more and more employees need to be trained.
