Class 12 board exams will not take place this year for CBSE and CISCE students, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday after a high-level meeting.
“Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth,” said the PM.
He stated that COVID-19 has affected the academic calendar and the issue of Board Exams has been causing immense anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end.
Now, the CBSE and CISCE will be releasing the criteria for assessment. The government said that it will be a “well-defined”, “objective” method that will ensure timely results. Recently, CISCE and CBSE schools were asked to submit data of class 12 students’ performance in classes 11, 10, and 9. It is expected that the final class 12 marks could be calculated on the basis of performance in internals and past three-year performance. A final decision, however, is awaited.
Earlier today, ahead of announcing his final decision on conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal ‘Nishank’ said that the ”safety and future of thousands of students” across the country remain the top priority of the government. The Education Minister also admitted that conducting the CBSE Board examinations for students in the prevailing COVID scenario is a huge challenge for the government.
The meeting was chaired by PM and attended by several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and bureaucrats of various ministries.
