World-record sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. He is in self-quarantine at his home in Jamaica a week after celebrating his mask-free birthday party.
The Jamaican sprinter had reportedly arranged for a birthday bash wherein no social distancing guidelines were followed.
Bolt said he took a Covid-19 test on Saturday and the results came out positive. The Jamaican great also added that he is asymptomatic and has been advised home quarantine.
In a video shared on social media, he said, “Good morning everybody I’m confirmed of Covid-19. I did a test on Saturday. [I’m] trying to be responsible so I’m going to stay in and stay away from my friends. Also, I am having no symptoms, so I am going to quarantine myself and will wait and see what is the protocol and how should I go about quarantining myself.”
According to sources, the birthday party that was held on August 21 was attended by big names such as cricketer Chris Gayle, Manchester City star Sterling and Bayer Leverkusen attacker Leon Bailey.
But Gayle announced on social media that his results were negative.
“Couple days ago. 1st
Covid-19 test.. Before travel I need 2 negative test,” read one of his posts.
In another post, Gayle wrote, “The last one went a bit too far in my nose.
Phew. Result was negative.”
He also wrote, “I’m going to stay home for 2020… not gonna travel again… nah sah! Tan a mi yard!! Keep the change! Excuse me!.”
