Chandigarh: Second phase of Covid-19 vaccination drive commences today

Chandigarh Health Department is geared up to conduct the next phase of Covid-19 vaccination drive that started today (March 1) at government health care facilities and five private hospitals. The vaccination’ programme is now open to all citizens above 60 years of age and those within the age bracket of 45 to 59 years with specified co-morbidities.

The vaccination process started at around 11:30am as the server was down in the dispensary of Sector 45. People had been waiting for the vaccination since 9am. At the same time, around five people had reached GMCH-32 by 10am but, only one person was vaccinated.

The health department had inspected the private hospital sites and interacted with their nodal officers. The number of private hospitals for the drive will be scaled up in the next few days, informed the Chandigarh Health Department.

According to the statement issued by the department, the government Covid Vaccination Centres (CVC) will provide free vaccinations to the age-appropriate groups. However, private hospitals will charge ₹250 per person per dose. Meanwhile, the Centre has upgraded its digital platform Co-WIN.2.0 so that the beneficiaries can self-register themselves.

Requirements

For on-spot registration, beneficiaries need to carry Aadhar Card, electoral photo identity card (EPIC) and the Photo ID card specified at the time of registration in case of online registration (if not Aadhar or EPIC), certificate of comorbidity for citizens in the age group between 45 years and 59 years and employment certificate/official identity card for HCWs and FLWs.

To ramp up the Covid vaccination capacity, large number of private hospitals empanelled under Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) and CGHS will function as Covid Vaccination Centres (CVCs). The government sites are in Chandigarh are:

The DHS has issued instructions to all hospital vaccination sites to promote on spot registration especially on day one as online registration might take some time.

Government of India had released the list of diseases on Saturday. These include heart transplant, hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, kidney failure patients, patients who are undergoing dialysis, liver cirrhosis, respiratory patients, lymphoma cancer sufferers, plastic anemia, thalassemia, HIV, muscular dystrophy and acid attack. Patients suffering from these diseases will be able to get vaccinated. With this, these patients will have to show a certificate of a registered doctor.
