As Delhi grapples with an acute shortage of medical oxygen, Delhi got its first Covid care centre with its own oxygen plant at the Commonwealth Games village Sports complex.
A plant with a capacity to produce around 1,500 litres of oxygen has been installed at the Commonwealth Games village Covid centre. The oxygen plant can supply oxygen to 18-20 patients simultaneously. All the beds have direct connectivity with the plant, making it easier to supply oxygen to patients. The oxygen equipment has been brought from abroad by the institution Doctors for You.
Dr Anurag Mishra, Clinical Manager at the Covid care centre, said that to overcome the shortage of medical oxygen, oxygen plant has been set up at the Commonwealth Covid care centre itself.
“The shortage of medical oxygen in Delhi is due to the supply chain of the oxygen cylinders. Setting up our own oxygen plant is a great move,” he said.
“The plant has been donated by the HCL foundation. We are thankful to them as we no longer depend on a supply chain,” he said. He further urged the hospitals to set up their own oxygen plant as it can save many lives.
On Saturday, 12 Covid-19 patients, including a senior doctor, had died at south Delhi’s Batra Hospital after the facility ran out of medical oxygen for around 80 minutes in the afternoon. Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Malviya Nagar on Sunday sounded an alarm about their depleting stocks around noon, saying 50 people, including four newborns, were “at risk”.
