Chandigarh’s government libraries and private/government colleges will reopen from November 23. For this, the Education Department had prepared the proposal before Diwali. After approval from the Administrator, instructions have been sent to the Heads of all the colleges and the librarians.
As per the instructions issued by Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director of Education, the students of graduate and post graduate courses will be called for regular classes from November 23. First, local students will be called and from December 1, college heads can provide hostel facility and invite students from outside states.
From November 23, all teachers and staff will have to come to the college regularly. If the college head feels the need, they can also make their own local guidelines with the UGC to ensure the health of the students and teachers.
Around 40,000 students study in private and government colleges of the city. Students will come to the college according to the time table and not all students will be called in one day.
They will have to carry their college ID card and get their entry done at the main gate, so that the data can be recorded.
Guidelines for UGC Colleges
1. All students, teachers and staff will undergo thermal screening at the main gate.
2. There will be separate gates for entry and exit to avoid crowd.
3. Students with fever, cough or difficulty in breathing will not be allowed to attend college.
4. It is necessary to carry sanitiser and wear mask.
5. Colleges will divide various departments and classes into small sections so that social distancing can be followed in class.
6. If the college has enough space and resources, then up to 50% students can be called simultaneously.
7. Contact details of visitors coming to the college will be collected.
8. College heads may make changes in teaching hours, as per their arrangement.
9. To follow social distance in the classrooms, seating arrangement of the students shall be at least 6 feet away. 10. College campus, class and lab etc. will be sanitised regularly.
