Cinema halls not to open in Punjab, Ramlilas to be staged

After a gap of seven months, cinema halls and multiplexes will reopen in several parts of the country today with 50% capacity. However, Punjab government has decided not to open cinema halls in the state yet.

“Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government decides not to open multiplexes, cinema halls and entertainment parks in the state yet,” chief minister’s media advisor Raveen Thukral informed in a tweet.

“However, staging of Ramlila will be allowed with strict Covid protocol,” he added.

In an order, District Magistrate Mandip Singh Brar gave in-principle approval to 20 committees for holding Ramlila on receipt of no-objection reports from the police.

As per the order, the timings of staging Ramlila will be from 8pm to midnight. The sound system is to be played as per the instructions of the Environment Department. The organisers will submit a list of 25 able-bodied volunteers for each Ramlila.

Last year, the Administration gave permission to 47 committees to stage Ramlila.
