Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, popularly known as Chhatbir Zoo, is scheduled to reopen on October 15 after a gap of about seven months.
Zoo’s field director M Sudhagar said, “We are preparing to reopen on October 15, but are awaiting the final orders from the state government.”
The zoo employees have been instructed to ensure that guidelines of social distancing are followed at all times by tourists. The zoo, which used to earn ₹1.8 lakh per day, has suffered a loss of ₹3.5 crore since the lockdown began.
According to officials, it may take the zoo up to 6 months to recover from the deficit.
