Chandigarh’s budget up by only .93% as compared to last year

Chandigarh was allocated a sum of ₹5,186.12 crore for the fiscal 2021-22 against the demand ₹5,670 in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on Monday. The sum is an increase of only ₹48.02 crore, which is 0.93% as compared to last year budget.

The UT’s revenue expenditure has been decreased from ₹4,693 crore in 2020-2021 to ₹4,567 crore in 2021-2022. At the same time, capital expenditure allocation stands increased from ₹494 crore to ₹618 crore.

Of the total Budget of ₹5,186.12 crore, the UT Administration got ₹4,567.67 crore under the revenue head.

The Centre has allocated ₹87.02 crore for police housing and allied works, including development of infrastructure, building, renovation of existing residential houses, etc. Last year, the UT had received ₹62.96 crore under the category.

Capital expenditure outlay for police has been increased from ₹53 crore to ₹87 crore, which includes provision for police housing and allied works. For public works, the allocation has been increased from ₹19.55 crore to ₹24.91 crore. Similarly, on education, sports, art and culture, capital expenditure allocation has been increased from ₹78.63 crore to ₹93.88 crore.

On the other hand, the Smart City Project has been allocated ₹75 crore. Moreover, it is yet to receive ₹300 crore from the Centre and the administration. This will accelerate the development work of the city. Smart City Limited CEO KK Yadav said that Chandigarh was to get ₹1,000 crore under this project. Currently, it has received ₹200 crore from the Centre and the administration. Also, ₹200 crore are lying in the account for the Smart City Project.
