The local administration has declared various traffic restrictions and diversions for August 15 in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations at the Parade Ground in Sector 17, Chandigarh. The advisory aims to guarantee an uninterrupted flow of traffic and safeguard attendees during the event.
All roads adjacent to the Parade Ground will be closed to the public from 6:30 a.m. and will reopen only on completion of this activity. All visitors are required to have original photo IDs for entrance to the venue. Any aggressive materials should not be present at the event. Bags, matchboxes, knives, cigarettes, firearms, liquor, inflammables, electrical gadgets, black flags, banners and posters are among the prohibited objects. These measures are meant to give safety and security to everyone who is joining the event.
Traffic Advisory for ‘At Home’ Function
For the ‘At Home’ function scheduled later in the day, several road stretches will be closed to the general public. The road in front of Punjab Raj Bhawan, from the roundabout of Sector 5/6/7/8 to the T-Point of Vigyan Path and Sukhna Path near the Chandigarh Golf Club, will be closed from 3:00 PM onwards, except for emergency vehicles. Additionally, the road from Gurdwara Gursagar Sahib turn on Uttar Marg to the Sectors 5/6/7/8 Chowk on Vigyan Path will be closed from 2:30 PM onwards.

The following road stretches will be closed to the public:
- Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout to Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22-A, Udyog Path
- From Old District Courts, Sector 17, to Hotel Shivalikview
- From Lyon’s Restaurant light point in Sector 17 to Parade Ground
- From Sector 22/23 light point to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout
- From Sector 16/23 small chowk to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout
Parking Arrangements
To accommodate vehicles, the administration has designated the following parking areas:
- Parking area of Sector 22-B
- Circus Ground, Sector 17
- Parking area near Neelam Cinema, Sector 17
- Multi-storey parking, Sector 17
Entry Gates for the Venue
- Special invitees: Gate No. 4, 6, and 7 (opposite Sector 22)
- General public: Gate No. 8, 9, and 10 (opposite Inter-State Bus Terminus, Sector 17)
