Chandigarh Residents On Edge After String of Burglaries

Residents of Chandigarh are shaken about their city’s security following multiple break-ins on Monday. An individual from various sectors reported these incidents demonstrating the necessity of tighter monitoring or perhaps better safeguards.

One particularly brazen theft involved a Toyota Innova being stolen alongside a significant amount of valuables from a house in Sector 36-C. Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Mohali whose daughter lives in the targeted residence, reported the theft. According to Singh, the burglary occurred sometime during the intervening night between Sunday and Monday. Police have registered a case under Sections 380 (theft) and 457 (house-trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are actively investigating the incident.

Daljit Singh from Sector 39-D, another resident, informed the police about a burglary that took place in his apartment .In it there was a r obbery at 380 and 454 sections ,locking him inside. Besides, he lost a gold chain, earrings and ₹35000 in cash in the process. The same night, the same thing was repeated in Sector 39 police station where the case was registered.

Thankfully, not all incidents resulted in successful thefts. An attempted burglary at the residence of a lab assistant working on the PGIMER campus in Sector 12 was thwarted by the quick actions of the homeowner, Sher Bahadur. While Bahadur was away at work, a neighbor alerted him about a potential break-in at his house. Rushing back home, Bahadur found a 20-year-old suspect, Tushar, alias Kaka, inside his residence and apprehended him. The police have registered a case under Sections 380 (theft), 454 (house-trespass), and 511 (attempting to commit theft) of the IPC against Tushar.

It reckons, that from time to time citizens of Chandigarh experience something like that; therefore, they have to be more careful when their houses are left with no one in them. Residents can install security cameras, opt for sturdier door lock systems and tell neighbors if they will be out of town for long duration on a visit. Further still, the idea of having police increase their day/night patrols but mostly in the susceptible areas may scare away any potential burglar.

The Chandigarh Police Department is still silent on the recent burglaries or a possible link between them until now. Yet the residents are looking forward to quick conclusion of these matters following renewed sense of protection associated with living there at investigations are going on.
