Chandigarh is a hotspot not just for the Punjabi film industry, but for Bollywood too. After a 7-month long lockdown, the entertainment industry is slowly getting back on track. With restrictions eased, famous actors are heading to City Beautiful for their upcoming projects. Here is a list of movies that are being filmed here:
1. Jug Jugg Jeeyo
Actors Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor on Monday began filming their upcoming comedy “Jug Jugg Jeeyo” in Chandigarh. It is being directed by Raj Mehta, who is known for “Good Newwz”, and is backed by filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. This bollywood film also marks the return of Neetu Kapoor on the big screen, seven years after “Besharam”, which also featured her actor son Ranbir Kapoor and late husband Rishi Kapoor. The movie also marks the big screen debut of YouTuber Prajakta Kohli.
2. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui
Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor spent her Diwali in the city, where she is shooting her next, “Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui”, opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor is at the helm of affairs and according to sources, actor Gautam Gulati has landed a key role in the project. The former Bigg Boss winner will reportedly soon join Ayushmann and Vaani for shoot. The film narrates the tale of a married couple where the wife is transgender. Reportedly the relationship will have another angle for which Gautam has been roped in to play a parallel lead.
3. Actress Kriti Sanon was here in Chandigarh with Rajkummar Rao to start shooting for Dinesh Vijan’s next. The as-yet-untitled film began filming on October 30. The film also stars Aparshakti Khurana, Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah. It will be directed by Abhishek Jain and was announced in February this year. The story of the comedy revolves around a couple who ‘adopt’ their parents.
4. After the massive success of Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor will essay the role of a cricketer in the Hindi remake of the 2019-Telugu film “Jersey”. Kapoor had commenced shooting in Chandigarh earlier this year when the shooting was halted amid the Covid pandemic in March. The actor recently resumed work and has already wrapped up the film schedule in Uttarakhand. He commenced the 15-day schedule in Chandigarh on November 9. The makers plan to shoot important cricket sequences here.
5. Laal Singh Chaddha
Before the lockdown, Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor had wrapped up the shoot for their upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha. The film was shot in a flat in RCS and CPS Enclave in Sector 48 here. The movie is an adaptation of Robert Zemeckis’ multiple Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump, which was released in 1994 and starred Tom Hanks with Robin Wright. Aamir will co-produce the Hindi adaptation along with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Not only movie stars, but Bigg Boss 13 rumoured couple Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaaz Gill were also shooting in City Beautiful this week for a music video with Anshul Garg and Tony Kakkar. Fans had reached the hotel where the two were staying. Sidharth could be seen walking amongst the fans and meeting them while Shehnaaz was spotted inside the car signing autographs for her fans. The duo is popularly shipped by fans as SidNaz.
