UT Secretariat, Chandigarh Housing Board’s (CHB’s) new building to be ready by June 2021

The construction work for the new Secretariat building of UT administration and Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) officials is going full steam these days. According to sources, both the buildings will be ready by June 2021.

The construction work of the new building of the UT Secretariat is being handled by the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Administration, while the construction work of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) building is being handled by the CHB itself. The construction work of both buildings started in December 2018.

The work was delayed due to the Covid pandemic and if the lockdown had not happened then many departments of UT Secretariat and Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) would have shifted to the new building by now.

The structure of both the buildings has been completed up to 90% and currently, electricity work is going on. Apart from this, the space around the building is also to be developed.

Both buildings will include a variety of new features and help in saving energy. Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB’s) will have two levels of basement parking with a capacity to park 221 vehicles. Solar panel system and rain water harvesting system are being installed. Also, Efficient Water Flow, Energy Efficient VRV System, CD Monitoring Based Car Parking Ventilation System, LED Efficient Interior Lighting and Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) are being installed.

All the water treated with STP will be used in the building itself. Water taps will be of low pressure so that there is no wastage of resources. The UT Secretariat will be seven-storey high, including the basement. This building has been built on the lines of Paryavaran Bhawan, Sector-19. Only after the completion of the new building, all the departments of Chandigarh will come to this building. This includes Excise and Taxation, Social Welfare Department, Legal Metrology, Health, State Agricultural Marketing Board and Office of Block Development and Panchayat Officers. Currently, all these offices are running in different buildings.
