Chandigarh BJP Leaders Urge Minister to Fast-Track Metro Project

Chandigarh BJP higher-ups have repeatedly called upon Manohar Lal Khattar, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in India, to make the proposed Tricity Metro project a reality. In Delhi on Tuesday, Khattar spoke with Jatinder Pal Malhotra, the Chandigarh BJP President, and Sanjay Tandon who is also part of the National Executive of the party, about the urgent need for the upgradtion of public transportation in the region.

Malhotra and Tandon pointed out to the minister in their letter that Chandigarh and its neighbouring areas had expanded rapidly, shaping a huge demand for a reliable and efficient public transport system over the past decade. They hailed what Chandigarh state has done to improve bus and road services but said such measures are insufficient to meet increasing passenger traffic.

“Recognising the urgency of the situation, we advocate for the quick implementation of a Metro system as an essential alternative public transport mode,” the BJP leaders stated. “We humbly urge you to address the escalating transportation needs effectively and seek your kind assistance in expediting the necessary procedures for the proposed Metro project.”

The leaders emphasised that in addition to offering a more effective means of transit, a Metro system would lessen the strain on the present infrastructure, which is finding it difficult to keep up with the rising demand. They emphasised that the Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula region’s sustained growth depends on the Metro project.

The letter highlighted the potential benefits of the Metro project, including reduced traffic congestion, lower pollution levels, and improved connectivity within the Tricity area. The BJP leaders expressed confidence that with the minister’s support, the project could move forward swiftly, benefiting millions of residents.

The leaders argued that despite the great strides that have been made by the Chandigarh government in enhancing bus and road transport systems, the future demands of this region necessitate a more all-encompassing solution in the form of Metro. They urged the minister to assign the highest priority to the Metro project and get it done faster to improve living standards for the people of Chandigarh City and nearby areas.
