Farmers have announced a nationwide ‘chakka jam’ on Saturday from 12 noon to 3pm. In view of this, the borders of Chandigarh, including Zirakpur, Mohali border, Mullanpur, Hallomajra Chowk will be blocked by the farmers and their supporters. Also, the intelligence agencies including Chandigarh Police are on alert.
The maximum number of protesters gathering on these borders is reported on the Mullanpur border. In order to avoid any ruckus and strengthen the security system, different police stations of the city have been guarded.
The residents of tricity will also join the demonstration. Pendu Sangharsh Committee, Youth Farmers Unity, and many other societies of students and political parties will show up to support the farmers. They have announced to stand in support of the farmers at all 82 chowks and light points in the city from 5pm to 7pm.
At every square, there will be at least ten volunteers from the youth farmer unity. They will all stand with placards in their hands and shout slogans.
Pendu Sangharsh Committee general secretary Gurpreet Singh Somal said that preparations have been made for the chakka jam in support of the farmers. People from nearby villages will reach the border area of Punjab.
Kripal Singh and Prateek Maan, the leaders of Youth Farmers Unity, said that at seven in the evening, everyone will pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the peasant movement by lighting candles.
Panchkula Administration has issued advisory against taking the Panchkula-Yamunangar (NH-73) and the Panchkula-Shimla routes in view of the call of ‘chakka jam’ by farm unions at the Chandi Mandir and Barwala toll plazas. The alternative routes suggested for the Panchkula-Yamunanagar (NH-73) highway are: Mouli-Raipur Rani Trilokpur Chowk-via Toka village to Panchkula road; and Mouli-Barwala-Dera Bassi-Panchkula-Shimla highway. Road users can also take the Chandigarh-Siswan-Baddi road route.
