Centre issues guidelines for reopening of cinema halls

As a part of Unlock-5, Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Tuesday released the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cinema halls and theatres, which are reopening from October 15.

According to the new guidelines, cinema halls are allowed to operate with 50% occupancy so as to maintain adequate physical distance between people. “Seats not to be occupied” have to be marked for the purpose.

It will be compulsory to show a minute-long film or announcement before a show as well as before and after the interval, to spread awareness among people about Covid-19.

Show timings of the screenings will be staggered and a sufficient number of box office counters shall be opened to avoid overcrowding. Movement of audience should be avoided during the intermission.

People have been encouraged to use digital modes of payment at the theatre and advance booking will be enabled to ensure that there is no rush at the counters. Floor markers will be used at the box office counters to ensure social distancing.

The Centre has advised people to install and use the Aarogya Setu app. Hand wash and sanitisers will be available at the cinema halls and people will undergo thermal screening before entering. People’s contact details will be taken to facilitate contact tracing, said the ministry.

Regular cleaning and disinfection of box office and other areas will be done. There will be multiple sale counters for food and beverages and people will be allowed to carry only packed food. No delivery will be permitted inside the auditorium. Theatres need to set the air conditioner’s temperature between 24 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius.
