CBSE class 12 evaluation criteria: Schools to submit marks by July 15, result by July 30

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday released the evaluation criteria or the final strategy through which it will assess Class 12 students.

CBSE told the Supreme Court of India that Class 12 students will be marked on the basis of Class 11 and Class 10 results. “Total marks of Class 12 result will be based on the Class 10 component (30%) based on the best three performing subjects in the board exams, class 11 component (30%) will be based on the final exam and class 12 component (40%) based on unit test/mid-term/pre-board,” it said.

The marks for the Class 12 practical exams, however, would be taken as it is. Now, for class 12, there are different subjects who have different break up of Practical and Theory marks. Students need to understand that only the theory portion marks would be calculated using Class 10 and 11 score.

This is going to be done on the basis of the table given below.

Theory Marks Practical/ IA Marks Total Marks
  Class 10 (30%) Class 11 (30%)) Class 12 (40%) Class 12 (100%) Class 10 Class 11 Class 12
80 24 24 32 20 24 24 52
70 21 21 28 30 21 21 58
60 18 18 24 40 18 18 64
50 15 15 20 50 15 15 70

While hearing pleas seeking directions to cancel the class 12 exams of the CBSE and CISCE amid the pandemic situation, a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari was told by Attorney General K K Venugopal that CBSE students who are not satisfied with the evaluation formula will be given an opportunity to take up Class 12 examination when the pandemic situation becomes conducive.

A result committee will be there for each of the schools to rule out advantages to students in some schools, which traditionally give high marks to students.

The CBSE Class 12 result will be announced by July 31.

The CISCE will declare its results in July, most likely by July 20, the Council informed the Supreme Court in a hearing today. For the evaluation criterion, it will consider the past six-year performance of students. If a student is not satisfied with the assessment criterion provided by the board, the candidate will have a chance to sit for the written exams after the pandemic situation normalises.
