Members of Chandigarh Youth Congress, farmers and students took to the streets for a candle march across chandigarh against the violence during a farmer protest in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. Eight people were killed in the violence that was triggered after car of BJP’s Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s Son hit the protesting farmers.
Chandigarh Youth Congress chief Manoj Lubana appealed to people to continue their protest peacefully. He said the Lakhimpur Kheri violence showed the insensitive face of the government and ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After failing to crush the movement, they have now started mowing down farmers. He said the incident would prove the last nail in the BJP’s coffin.
Chandigarh Congress President Subhash Chawla warned BJP ministers and lawmakers against entering and organising programmes in chandigarh as people are angry and anything could happen. “If anything happens with them, the government and their representatives would be responsible for it.
Manish Bansal was also present during the march. He added, “The incident at Lakhimpur Kheri is highly deplorable and now this BJP government has come down to killing the protesting farmers. This is a very sad & unfortunate incident. I have no words to condemn this incident. They (BJP govt) don’t believe in democracy, they only want autocracy.”
Various other leaders including HS Lucky, Sonu Moudgill, Ajay Sharma, Harmail Kesari and Dharamveer were also present during the candle march.
