Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has merged Secondary Switching Area (SSA) Ropar, Patiala, Derabassi and Zirakpur to Chandigarh SSA.
Chandigarh SSA general manager MC Singh said that this system came into effect from November 1. The new business office of this has been built in the BSNL telephone exchange office in Sector 34. Now, the local office will serve Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali along with Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Nangal, Kurali, Zirakpur and Derabassi.
About 2.75 lakh mobile subscribers, 8,200 landlines, 4,500 broadband and 3,300 FFTH connections are running in the new areas involved.
The merger will focus more on providing better services to customers in these areas. Efforts will be made to connect the villages of new areas with fiber technology so that they can get better internet service. The merger will also provide employment opportunities to rural youth. Those who are matric pass will be made direct selling agents and will be paid commission for mobile products such as mobile SIM, topup and recharge in rural areas.
