Demonstrating commitment to ensure smooth connectivity throughout the nation, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has embarked on a mission to open the Leh-Manali National Highway, bolstering connectivity to the Ladakh region. Skilled engineers using state-of-the-art machinery, while struggling simultaneously with extreme weather conditions, BRO has initiated the restoration of Project HIMANK. This project facilitates connectivity between Ladakh and parts of Jammu and Kashmir under the India–China Border Roads project.
In fighting against Ladakh’s sub-zero temperature weather, and gutsy winds at an altitude surpassing 17,000 feet, a team of highly skilled engineers from 111RCC/753 BRTF, armed with advanced snow-clearing equipment has started reconstruction of the road. Their relentless efforts boast BRO’s commitment to overcoming adversities and strengthening connectivity in challenging.
National Highway-03, the lifeline that connects Leh with Manali, succumbs to harsh weather conditions annually, leading to heavy snowfall and avalanches that make the road impossible to travel from November onwards. The Border Road Organization’s timely mediation is critical for the residents of the region and security forces. These people rely heavily on the highway for vital supplies, medical emergencies, and connectivity to the mainland.

More than 6 Lakh tourists travel through the NH03 while appreciating the BRO’s commendable efforts to keep the road open for 6 months.
