Bhupinder Singh Mann refuses to be part of SC’s 4 member committee

Bhupinder Singh Mann has refused to be a part of Supreme Court’s (SC’s) four-member committee formed for resolving the deadlock between farmers and the central government over the three farm bills.

On January 12, SC had formed this panel to break the deadlock over the farm laws. Members included agricultural economists PK Joshi and Ashok Gulati, and farmer leaders Anil Ghanwat and Bhupinder Singh Mann. Mann is the national president of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU)

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Maan stated that he will always be with the farmers and Punjab.

“While I am thankful to Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for nominating me in the 4 member committee to start a dialogue with Kisan Unions on the three laws brought in by the Central Government,” he said.

Bhupinder Singh Mann said that he is ready to sacrifice his position in the interest of farmers. “As a farmer myself and a Union leader, given the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions amongst the farm unions and the public in general, I am ready to sacrifice any position offered or given to me to not compromise the interests of Punjab and farmers of the country, I am recusing myself from the Committee and I will always stand with my farmers and Punjab,” he added.
