Bhajouli village in Mohali first to achieve 100% vaccination in 18+ category

Bhajouli village of Mohali district created a record on Monday with 100% coverage of its entire 18-plus population and leading the district in Covid vaccination with at least one dose.

Bhajouli has a population of 536 people, out of which 356 people are over 18 and all eligible persons have been jabbed with at least one dose of vaccine.

“All villages are doing by and large good work in vaccination; five of our villages namely Tarouli, Rasoolpur, Barsalpur, Madanheri, and Bahadurgarh have successfully covered 100 per cent of the above 45 years old population,” said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan.

The DC added that the village Panchayat has emerged as a pioneer among local civic bodies to be eligible for a special development grant of Rs 10 lakh, announced earlier by the Punjab CM, for villages achieving cent per cent vaccination target.

Dayalan appreciated the hard work done by the healthcare workers, the Guardians of Governance (GoGs) and the local administration that persuaded the eligible beneficiaries and organised special camps for them.

“Hope more villages of our district would also soon attain 100 per cent vaccinated status,” he said.

As many as 33 more deaths and 629 new Covid cases were reported in Punjab during last 24 hours. According to health bulletin issued by the department, a maximum of 5 deaths were reported in Patiala, followed by 4 in Sangrur, 3 each in Ferozepur and Jalandhar, 2 each in Amritsar, Barnala, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur and Tarn Taran, 1 each in Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Mansa, SAS Nagar, Muktsar, Pathankot and Ropar.

Mohali district reported a total of 35 Covid positive cases and 3 deaths on Monday, whereas Chandigarh reported 50 new cases and 2 deaths.
