Supreme Court Bar Association President Dushyant Dave tenders resignation

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Dushyant Dave resigned on Thursday, stating he had forfeited his right to continue as the leader of the bar association.

In his brief letter, Dushyant Dave said, “Following recent events, I feel that I have forfeited my right to continue as your leader.”

Noting that the tenure of the Executive Committee of the SCBA had already ended, Dushyant Dave in his brief letter stated that it might not be possible to hold virtual elections as per schedule “due to reservations held by some lawyers”.

“I understand their position and have no quarrel with it but to me any further continuation as the President in these circumstances will be morally wrong,” said Dave.

Dave had recently represented a few farmer unions before the Supreme Court in the case of constitutional challenge to the three farm acts. The Supreme Court on Tuesday had put a stay on the three farm laws.

Senior Advocate Chander Uday Singh has also tendered his resignation as Member of the Executive (Senior), SCBA. “We overcame all odds and raised substantial funds, thereby helping out a substantial section of our members who were faced with financial distress; we launched an unprecedented drive to help victims of the horrific riots which rocked NorthEast Delhi last February; we succeeded in getting a written commitment from the Honourable Judges Committee in respect of additional Chambers; we revamped the Library One and effected substantial repairs in all the libraries,” said Singh in his letter.
