Holder Praneeth in Indian team for Singapore Open; England & Hong Kong confirm entries

Singapore Open men’s singles defending champion B. Sai Praneeth has confirmed his participation for the July 17-22 badminton tournament at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the organisers announced on Monday (June 4).

The 25-year-old Indian beat team-mate Kidambi Srikanth 17-21, 21-17, 21-12 to win his maiden Superseries title in 2017, and followed that up to win the Thailand Open.

The world No. 18 said: “2017 was a wonderful year for me, capping it off with a gold at the Singapore Badminton Open was a great reward for my hard work.

“Defending my title this year is going to be challenging, but I will make my fans proud.”

Also part of the 18-strong Indian contingent are men’s world No. 40 Parupalli Kashyap, women’s world No. 91 Mugdha Agrey and India’s top-ranked women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N. Sikki Reddy.

Also confirming their entries on Monday were Hong Kong and England, whose 13-strong squad will include the mixed doubles world No. 9 husband-wife duo Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.
