Former chief minister (CM) Parkash Singh Badal’s residence at village Badal has been declared as a Macro Containment Zone after 19 people including security staff, cooks and some of them reported positive corona.
However, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, daughter Gurleen Kaur and son Anantveer Singh have tested negative for the infection.
Disclosing this on Tuesday, Dr Paramdeep Sandhu, nodal officer, Muktsar Sahib, said that samples of the above four were taken which came back negative. The sample of former CM Parkash Singh Badal was not taken. Test reports of a few employees are yet to come. As of now, samples of nearly 150 persons have been collected.
On Monday, 11 people, a majority of them central security personnel, attached with the Badals, had tested Covid positive. Earlier, eight people – six security personnel, a cook and a telephone operator – had tested positive for Covid at the Badals’ residence. These included a superintendent of police (SP) of Punjab Police as well. The nodal officer said, “The ex-CM’s residence is now a macro-containment zone as the number of positive persons is above 15. Earlier, it was a micro-containment zone.”
