Assam Minor’s Gang-Rape: Prime Accused Dies After Escaping Police Custody

In the middle of the investigation into the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Assam’s Nagaon district, a horrible turning point occurred. Tafazul Islam, the prime suspect who was apprehended on Friday managed to escape from police custody and ended up dying by drowning in a pond.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning, while a police crew was transporting Islam to the murder scene for re-creation. The escape attempt led to a manhunt, and Islam’s body was eventually recovered from the pond.

The gang rape occurred on Thursday, resulting in significant demonstrations and indignation. Locals rescued the guy after he was left wounded and unconscious on the roadside near a pond.

The Assam Police have arrested one individual and detained another in connection with the investigation. The search for the third accused is underway. GP Singh, the Director General of Police, has closely monitored the probe.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma denounced the horrible murder and promised the victim’s family fast justice. He emphasised the government’s determination to take harsh measures against offenders of crimes against women.
