Anindita Mitra takes over as Chandigarh MC chief

Anindita Mitra, a 2007 batch Punjab cadre IAS officer, joined office as Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner on Monday.

She joined the office on an inter-cadre deputation from the Punjab cadre to AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh) segment. Mitra is married to Dr SK Raju, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab.

Mitra, who will have a three-year tenure, is the first regular IAS officer from Punjab, to serve in Chandigarh as the MC Commissioner. Earlier, IAS officers Prerna Puri and Bhawna Garg had been given additional charge of municipal commissioner for a few months.

The incumbent Commissioner, KK Yadav, was officially relieved on Sunday. He joined his parent cadre in Punjab today.

Anindita Mitra’s name, which was proposed by the UT administration to the home ministry, was approved by the Union cabinet’s appointments committee on August 4. Earlier, the Punjab government had sent the names of two more IAS officers for the post — Amit Kumar and Rajiv Prashar, both of 2008 batch.
