South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris becomes most expensive buy in IPL history

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 player auction took place in Chennai on Thursday. The IPL 2021 auction saw eight franchises aggressively bidding for nearly 300 players. South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris became the most expensive buy in the IPL history as he was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for a record price of ₹16.25 crore.

Moreover, Shahrukh Khan bought by Punjab Kings for ₹5.25 crore, against his base price of ₹20 lakh.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell also went big and was bought by by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for ₹14.25 crore after an intense bidding war. Steve Smith, released by RR, went to Delhi Capitals for his ₹2.2 crore. England all-rounder Moeen Ali was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹7 crore, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹3.20 crore. India all-rounder Shivam Duve was also in huge demand and went to Rajasthan Royals for ₹4.40 crore.

Sachin Baby was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹20 lakh while Rajat Patidar went to Virat Kohli’s team for the same base price. On the other hand, the following players were unsold: Karun Nair (Base price ₹50 lac), Alex Hales (Base price ₹1.50 crore), Jason Roy (Base price ₹2 crore), Evin Lewis (Base price ₹1 crore), Aaron Finch (Base price ₹1 crore), Hanuma Vihari (Base price ₹1 crore), Kedar Jadhav (Base price ₹2 crore), Glenn Phillips (Base price ₹50 lac), Alex Carey (Base price ₹1.50 crore), Sam Billings (Base price ₹2 crore) and more.
