AAP MP Swati Maliwal Claims Assault at CM Kejriwal’s Residence

A recent incident has stirred controversy as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal has come forward alleging assault at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence by his close aide, Bibhav Kumar.

The alleged assault reportedly prompted a PCR call around 10 am from the CM’s residence, prompting a visit from a team of Delhi Police to the house situated in Civil Lines, as reported.

This development unfolded just two days after the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal, allowing him to resume campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. With voting for the fourth phase underway and three more phases to follow, the timing of this allegation adds to the political fervour surrounding the electoral landscape.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that last month, Delhi’s Directorate of Vigilance terminated Bibhav Kumar’s services as the private secretary of Kejriwal, citing a pending case from 2007 that includes charges of assault and obstruction of a public servant’s duty.

AAP has not yet issued an immediate reaction to these allegations and has left room for speculation and uncertainty regarding the incident.

Swati Maliwal, known for her tenure as the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, has been vocal in her criticisms of administrative decisions, particularly those affecting women’s rights in the national capital. Earlier this month, she faced off with Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena over the termination of contractual employees at the DCW, highlighting ongoing tension between the AAP-led government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

While Maliwal’s absence from the AAP’s list of star campaigners raised eyebrows, her recent return and participation in campaigning activities signal a renewed engagement with the party’s electoral efforts. Her allegation of assault now adds a new layer of complexity to the political narrative, sparking debates and demands for clarity from both the AAP and its critics alike.
