Delhi Airport’s New Terminal 1 Begins Operations Today: Key Details

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will open its newly renovated Terminal 1 today, August 17, marking a crucial milestone in the airport’s growth plans. The terminal’s reopening comes weeks after it was closed due to a canopy collapse in late June, which resulted in a heartbreaking death.

On 14 August 2024, Delhi Airport Limited (DIAL) announced through a press statement that Terminal 1 would become functional again and IndiGo and SpiceJet would shift their flight operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the terminal in March 2024 after its reconstruction began as a part of the Phase 3A expansion project in 2019.

SpiceJet will shift 13 flights to Terminal 1 beginning today, while IndiGo will relocate 34 flights from Terminals 2 and 3 to Terminal 1 on September 2. This strategy move aims to optimise flight operations and improve customer convenience.

DIAL has made various improvements to Terminal 1, including enhanced signage at critical points, on-road markings to direct passengers, and the deployment of RAXA security officers to assist passengers. Additionally, a new ‘Queue-Buster: Mobile Check-in Service’ has been created to assist travellers in avoiding excessive wait times at check-in desks.

SpiceJet customers will enter the terminal through Entry Gate A on the ground floor, and IndiGo passengers will utilise Entry Gates 5 and 6 on the first floor. To guarantee an easy experience for everyone visiting, arrivals should be directed to the allocated sites at the lower level.

Terminal 1 is expected to be reopened to enhance the experience of passengers at IGI Airport by making it more efficient and comfortable for national and international travellers.
