It will be a long waiting period for commuters travelling along the Chandigarh-Ambala highway due to the incomplete flyover which was highly anticipated. The project was started over two years ago but is far from concluding despite its 18-month expectations. A land case is the basic reason for all this delay, making construction stop on one side of the Singhpura Chowk flyover.
There is a hazardous backlog because of the ongoing matter. There are more safety dangers and frequent traffic delays as a result of the unfinished flyover and high traffic. Residents and commuters in the area have become increasingly irate over the state of affairs, with some claiming that the dangerous circumstances have resulted in near-miss incidents.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been criticized for its inability to settle legal disputes and speed up the process of acquiring land. Although the authority has suggested that the temporary fix will be to finish one side of the flyover; however, critics believe that this is just a body patch and does not deal with the fundamental issue.
The delay in the project has not only inconvenienced commuters but has also led to increased project costs. The initial budget of Rs. 40 crore will likely be significantly exceeded due to prolonged construction and inflationary pressures.
With this ongoing project still lingering, questions emerge about how effective the relevant authorities are in dealing with matters like these while delaying other areas of national development. The absence of clarity regarding when a solution would be reached concerning land issues means that commuters have to feel uncomfortable with the effects of poor planning and execution.
