Chandigarh-Manali Highway Partially Reopens After Landslides

The road connecting Chandigarh and Manali is partially open again after the Mandi-Pandoh area experienced heavy rain and mudslides. Up until recently, the travelers were advised not to travel this way. On Friday evening, the road was stopped due to landslips at multiple locations, including the 5-mile, 6-mile, and 9-mile marks.

It took emergency crews approximately 10 hours to clear the road of debris, allowing for limited traffic to resume. However, local authorities have advised light vehicles to detour via Kataula and Gohar due to ongoing conditions, as numerous vehicles remain trapped on the highway.

Officials confirmed that the road at the 5 Mile and 6 Mile locations has been cleared, enabling one-way traffic to flow from Mandi to Pandoh at the 9 Mile point.

In addition to the challenges on the Mandi-Pandoh stretch, the section between Pandoh and Aut has sustained damage near Godh Nallah and Jogni Mata Temple, leading to restrictions that allow traffic only on one side of the carriageway. Other roads, including the Mandi-Janjehli route near Thunag and the Mandi-Dharampur road near Kumarhda, are also closed.

The Mandi administration advises visitors to use caution and consider the condition of the roads and the weather forecast before leaving. The state’s 115 roads have been closed due to the heavy downpour; the most affected places include Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Kangra, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti.

Authorities are dedicated to guaranteeing passenger safety and are working to restore complete access to all impacted routes. To safely negotiate these difficult circumstances, commuters are urged to stay up-to-date on road information and to follow the guidance of local authorities.
