In view of the record admissions in the schools of Punjab, additional classrooms will be built in government schools. The first phase has identified 372 government schools in 21 districts of Punjab and construction of 391 classrooms has commenced. For this project, ₹1 lakh has been released by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
During the Covid pandemic, there was an increase of 14% students compared to other years in the government schools of Punjab. The Department of Education is claiming that as the level of education that has improved due to the changes, students opted for government schools instead of private schools.
Some necessary instructions have been given regarding the grant issued for the construction of classrooms and the construction work of the additional classrooms should be completed within the stipulated time.
There are 21 districts of Punjab where 391 additional classrooms are to be built in 372 schools. These include 29 in Jalandhar, 45 in Amritsar, 8 in Barnala, 13 in Moga, 18 in Muktsar, 7 in Pathankot, 37 in Patiala, 7 in Ropar, 14 in Ferozepur, 15 in Gurdaspur, 40 in Hoshiarpur, 11 in Sangrur. “We are constantly improving the quality of education in government schools. Even during the Coronavirus pandemic, students were taught through virtual modes. Due to this, there has been an improvement of 14% in admission of students,” said Vijay Inder Singla, Education Minister of Punjab.
