In a relief for police personnel of Chandigarh Police Department, a weekly off will be given to them. The trial in the police stations will commence in the first week of December. The main reason for this is to take care of the mental health and to avoid discrimination and chances of favouritism or partiality.
Its trial has started in Chandigarh traffic police on the instruction of Traffic and Safety SP Manoj Kumar Meena wherein weekly offs of all field personnel is fixed and the replacement for the cop on day off is specified. A reminder is also sent for leave on the day before the weekly off of any traffic policeman.
According to sources, the first trial will be started in Sector-31 police station. If it is successful, it will be implemented in all the police stations of the city.
UT police employee Jagjit Singh had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding that the timings of all policemen be fixed for eight hours and weekly leave be permitted.
