This year, due to the lack of demand in market, the price of dry fruits has fallen by 15 to 20% and yet, there are less buyers. Generally, the dry fruit market of Sector-26 starts getting huge crowds around 15 days prior Diwali. The shops are adorned like every year, but this time the market is almost empty.
According to traders, the demand for dry fruits is weak not only in Sector-26, but all across the city. They say Covid is huge factor as the demand for corporate gifts is negligible. A trader from Sector-26 said that almonds were 20% cheaper, cashew nuts 10 to 15%, pistachios 10 to 15% and other dry fruits 15 to 20% compared to last year.
