To boost English communication skills of students from class 6 to 12 in government schools of Punjab, Education Department has come up with an initiative of forming English Booster Club (EBC). EBC will be launched today ie October 12 in government schools district level.
In this, guided videos, listening tapes, sentences and phrases will be shared by state resource groups with all the government schools to enhance listening skill, pronunciation and vocabulary of the pupils. Activities such as tongue twisters, rhymes and songs for imitation to enhance listening skill, pronunciation and vocabulary will be organised.
The objective is to shed the inhibitions of the students and encourage them to speak English through accomplishing the given tasks.
In phase 1, the objective will be to ensure proper functioning of Booster Clubs. In Phase 2, focus will be on weekly spoken English programmes which will include vocabulary, sentence structures, situational conversation and listening tasks. In the first phase, three students per section would be made to join the club but later, all students will join the club.
The district team of mentors will look after the tasks assigned to the students and the district mentors, with the help of the teachers, will motivate the students to communicate in English. As per officials, English has always been a top priority for parents while choosing the best school for their wards. So, they believe that improving the standard of the language in government schools would not only help increase enrolment, but also send a message that government schools are at par with private ones.
