85 seats for Class 8 students for govt scholarships, apply by Nov 6

Students from the economically weaker section studying in Class 8 can apply for a scholarships provided by the Central Government till November 6.

Students studying in Class 8 in government and government-aided schools of the city can submit the application form till 6 November at the office of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Sector-32.

The government conducts scholarship examinations for the economically weaker students of the country under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships Scheme (NMMSS). In this, the top one lakh students of the country are given scholarships. For this, there are 85 seats in Chandigarh and 4% is reserved for the disabled.

The student must have minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 for appearing in selection test for award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC and ST students). Students will have to appear for two papers of 90 marks each. The first will be the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the second will be the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). In the SAT, questions of science, social science and mathematics of class 7 and 8 will be asked. Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than ₹1,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail the scholarships. Scholarship of ₹12,000 will be given to students coming in merit from Class 9 to 12.
