300-bed Mother child centre to be built in GMSH-16

Preparations have been started to transfer the Department of Women and Obstetrics in Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) Sector-16, Chandigarh, to the approved 300-bed Mother Child Centre.

Health Director Dr Amandeep Kang said that the OPD of the Department of Women and Obstetrics will be shifted to the new OPD building of the hospital, whereas the facility of admitting the pregnant women will be done in the Civil Hospital of Manimajra and Sector 45, Chandigarh.

The 300-bed Mother Child Centre proposal had been on hold for several years.

Dr Kang said that the multi-storey Mother Child Centre building will be built by breaking the old building in the Department of Women and Obstetrics. The process of tendering of the building has been completed and the map has also been prepared. The construction work will commence as soon as the department is transferred.

Currently, only normal delivery is done at the civil hospitals of Manimajra and Sector 45 at night, while there is also an operation theatre. Doctors from GMSH-16 will be posted there and medical facilities will be provided to pregnant women coming from nearby and remote areas. It has been planned to start caesarean delivery facility at these two hospitals.
