Three new projects will be started this month under the Smart City. This includes 10 water ATMs in Chandigarh, 24*7 drinking water supply in Manimajra and a sanitary landfill project in Dadumajra.
Despite five consecutive tenders, no company has forward for Manimajra 24*7 water supply project. So, this time some changes are being made to this Smart City project.
There is a plan to install water ATMs in 10 major places of the city. The projects will be run on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and the company which will make the water ATM machine will also be given the responsibility of running it. Water ATM machine rates have also been decided. For ₹2, you can get 250ml water, and for ₹5, one can get 1 litre water.
As per the projects plan, machines will be installed at Sukhna Lake, Sector-17 Plaza, Rock Garden, Sector-11, Near PGI, Panjab University, Sector-43 and Sector-17 Bus Stand. Similarly, a sanitary landfill site will be built on nine acres located at the dumping ground. The site will have a 12 feet boundary wall and treated water can be released into the sewer line.
