3.0-magnitude earthquake hits Himachal’s Kangra region, no damage reported

New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A low-intensity earthquake hit Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra region on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI.

The earthquake measured 3.0 on the Richter scale and occured at 10:51 am. No damage has been reported.

An earthquake of 3.0-3.9 magnitude is considered as minor. While it is often felt, it rarely causes any damage.  In October, an earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale hit Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district but there was no report of any casualty or damage to property.

Himachal Pradesh is prone to earthquakes. Light to moderate intensity quakes are regular as several parts of the hill-state fall under seismic zone five. An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude had devastated the Kangra district in 1905, killing over 20,000 people.
