100-bed Covid hospital at PU starts today

A 100-bed Covid hospital set up by the Western Command on the Panjab University campus was inaugurated on Monday by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.

Moderate symptomatic civilian patients will be admitted to this hospital which has oxygen level 1 facility. Around 100 paramedics will man the hospital. The medicines, oxygen and equipment have been arranged by the Army.

All referrals of patients who require oxygen will be done by the civil administration here. All critical cases will be sent to PGIMER.

The Indian Army is building several such hospitals in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana under Operation Namaste, which was launched on March 27 to tackle the Covid pandemic. Two such similar hospitals have been established by the Western Command at Patiala and Faridabad, all of which will accommodate 100 mild to moderate symptomatic civilian patients.

Apart from contributing 108 doctors, 14 nursing officers and 205 paramedics to various hospitals set up by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Western Command has also provided 33 paramedics to Government Rajindra Hospital at Patiala and SVBP Hospital at Delhi. Another 100 paramedics will be deployed shortly at various other locations.

Veterans can call at 0172-2554068 and 9779315505 for assistance.

Chandigarh registered a record 895 Covid cases on Sunday, taking the count to 50,207, whereas Mohali registered 918 cases.
